KARACHI, Sept 15: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has announced that Baldia Town would be supplied water from Hub dam through a separate pipeline to be laid shortly by the city government.

The laying of a pipeline dedicated to Baldia Town has been necessitated, as water from Hub dam after passing through various localities reaches Baldia with a very low pressure.

The nazim was speaking as chief guest on Thursday at a well-attended ceremony held in connection with the inauguration of Khursheed Begum Family Park developed at Baldia Town’s UC-5 by the city government through the nazim’s discretionary funds.

Spread over an area of 2.5 acres and built at a cost of Rs11.7 million, the lush green park has 30 benches, two canopies, two fountains and a jogging track.

Mentioning about K-III water project, Mr Kamal said that shortly after taking the reigns of the city government, they got the project expeditiously commissioned, otherwise residents of both sprawling townships Baldia and Orangi would have faced a serious water crisis this summer when water level in Hub dam had receded to an alarming proportion.

About various development works being undertaken in the town with the city government’s funds amounting to Rs750 million, Mr Kamal announced that the city government was setting up an international garment city in Baldia Town.

The proposed garment city would be developed on 175 acres, he said adding that it would not only help provide jobs to at least one member of every house of the town but people from every nook and corner of the country would have employment opportunities in the garment city where local as well as international firms of repute would be setting up industries.

Baldia Town Nazim Kamran Akhtar also spoke on the occasion.
