KARACHI: Quashment of case ordered

Published September 15, 2006

KARACHI, Sept 14: Justice Amir Hani Muslim on Thursday ordered that a case against businessman Ashraf Mava proceeding in the customs court be quashed as it was being tried by the special anti-narcotics court.

The applicant’s counsel, Khwaja Shamsul Islam, submitted that he had been subjected to double jeopardy by being tried for the same offence by two courts.

The accused had allegedly imported ampoules containing a contraband drug.

Federal government standing counsel Mahmood Alam Rizvi agreed that the accused could not be tried by two courts for the same offence.
