PESHAWAR, Sept 12: Vice-Chancellor Dr Haroon Rashid said on Tuesday efforts were being made to make the Peshawar University a distinguished institution in the region recognised for its global perspective and diverse and supportive learning environment, besides having international reputation in research and creative discovery.

Academic excellence was top priority of his administration, he said, adding that it had provided modern facilities and suitable environment to the teachers and students. He was talking to a visiting delegation of students and teachers of the Sindh University at his office.

Administration Director Iftikhar Hussain Khan briefed the visiting students and teachers about academic and co-curricular activities on the university campus.

Dr Rashid and Mr Khan said their varsity, a future oriented and unique institution, was committed to achieving excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service.

The university, they said, provided superior and comprehensive educational opportunities through doctoral and special professional programmes.

They said the University of Peshawar contributed to advancement of society through research, creative activity and scholarly inquiry.

“The university promotes arts, benefits national economy, serves the citizens through public programmes and is dedicated to production of quality human resource for the knowledge-driven development of the country,” they said.

The vice-chancellor informed the visitors that the university had six academic faculties and 40 postgraduate departments and 174 private and public sector colleges affiliated with it.

He said a total of 93,235 students were enrolled with the university. It was the only institution of the country where education was imparted from nursery to PhD within one campus, he added.

Professor Abdul Sattar Soomro of the Sindh University thanked the vice-chancellor and rest of the administration for offering them hospitality.—APP
