SIALKOT, Sept 11: The Civil Lines police have registered a case against more than 35 lawyers for attacking the court of civil judge Abdullah Siraj a few days back. Reports said lawyers were protesting against the conviction of their colleague R.K.Salam by the court. Mr Salam was accused of demanding extortion (jagga) and threatening local industrialists with dire consequences along with his three men.
The protesters had allegedly attacked the court and ransacked the office furniture on which the police registered a case against them. Since then, lawyers were observing strike and their protest entered fifth day on Monday.
Meanwhile, a Sialkot district bar association (DBA) meeting held here on Monday afternoon with its president Javaid Iqbal Mughal in the chair condemned the registration of case against the protesting lawyers.
The bar meeting demanded immediate cancellation of the case.
ROBBERY: Two dacoits took away Rs0.5 million from a trader after injuring his partner here on Abbott Road on Monday.
Reports said Muhammad Saleem and Syed Anees Naqvi were going to their factory after drawing the money from the Paris Road branch of Askari Commercial Bank when the robbers held them hostage at gunpoint. They shot injured Anees Naqvi on offering resistance and made off with the amount from them. The injured was admitted to local hospital in a critical condition.
Police have registered a case with no arrest or recovery.
