HYDERABAD, Sept 11: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that revenue authorities of the Matiari district have been directed to complete a survey of losses caused by rains as soon as possible so that proper relief to victims is provided.

Talking to reporters in Bhitshah on Sunday evening, he said that the Sindh government was working on a plan to cope with the situation.

He said that it was a natural disaster beyond the control of any power except Almighty Allah who would give us courage to face the situation.

Matiari District Nazim Mohammad Ali Shah, taluka nazims, DCO Usman Chachar, EDO (health) Hassan Murad Shah and the EDO Revenue were present on the occasion.

The chief minister asked the EDO (health) to ensure availability of medicines in each taluka and rural health centre, specially for snakebite, dogbite and water-born diseases.

Replying to a question, the Sindh chief minister said that the situation in the Matiari district was under control and there was no need to declare emergency.

The chief minister while accepting the demand of taluka nazim Matiari granted one tractor, one tractor-trolley and one fire brigade vehicle for the TMA Matiari.

He asked the relief commissioner to release some funds to the district health management for purchase of necessary medicines at RHCs of the district.

He directed the management of animal husbandry to provide proper facilities to cattle owners.

The DCO said that actual losses of crops could be assessed after stagnant water receded.

He said that the district received 107mm rain in the last rain spell that caused huge losses to crops as well.

The DCO presented some administrative problems like a shortage of lower staff and buildings.

Mr Arbab said that all genuine problems would be resolved on the priority basis.

He said that since Matiari was a new district, its problems would be solved gradually.
