Relief sought for Kashmir flood victims

Published September 11, 2006

ISLAMABAD, Sept 10: Pakistan has expressed the hope that immediate relief would be provided to the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir. “Pakistan sympathises with those who have suffered the loss of family members and property in the floods and hopes that immediate relief will be provided to the flood affected population,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement issued here on Saturday.

The floods have affected 1.5 million people in 495 villages of Pulwama, Badgam, Srinagar, Anantnag/Islamabad and Baramula.

“The people and government of Pakistan are saddened by the sufferings of the people of Jammu and Kashmir as a result of wide spread destruction of property and loss of life caused by the recent rains and heavy floods,” the spokesperson said.
