KARACHI, Sept 9: Shahzeb Aftab of Beacon House School overcame stiff challenge from school-mate Sabeeh Naeem-uz-Zaman in five thrilling sets to reach the next round of boys U-15 singles in the 35th Karachi Table Tennis Championship at Islamia Club on Saturday.

After winning 11-7, 11-9, Shahzeb could not maintain the pace and conceded the next two sets 6-11, 7-11 to see match being levelled 2-2. He recovered and got his act together to win the decisive set 11-8.

Madiha Asif of Nasra School shone in the girls when she disposed of Rida Hasan of Shah Wilayat Academy 11-0, 11-1, 11-0 to move into next round.

The formal inauguration was followed by the march past that featured competing outfits.
