KARACHI, Sept 9: Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram on Saturday said current captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was the right person to lead the team in next year's World Cup in the West Indies.

The legendary fast bowler, putting his weight behind his former World Cup winning team-ate, said the veteran batsman will be the right choice for captaincy in the World Cup at the Caribbean as the boys in the team respected him tremendously.

Inzamam, the only survivor from the 1992 World Cup winning squad, came under fire after Pakistan lost the Test series in England with many pundits suggesting that the burly batsman from Multan should relinquish the captaincy charge in favour of his deputy Younis Khan for the next year's Cup.

“No doubt Younis will be an intelligent captain but my vote goes to Inzamam for the World Cup captaincy as he is the most experienced player in the side and players respect him a lot,” Wasim said in an interview.

However, Wasim suggested that it won’t hurt Inzamam to be more active on the field and to become a motivational force under tense situations such as the one encountered in India last year.—Agencies
