PESHAWAR, Sept 9: Religious scholars and health experts deliberated upon devising a social cooperative health system for financing healthcare expenditure in which members will pay according to their ability and get health services according to their needs.

The alternate modes of financing healthcare were discussed in a seminar held on the subject at the Peshawar Medical College here on Saturday.

Chief Minister NWFP Akram Khan Durrani was chief guest on the occasion while senior minister Sirajul Haq, Provincial health Minister Inayatullah, Senator Prof Khursheed Ahmad, Mufti Munibur Rehman, Mufti Ghulam Rehman, Qari Roohullah Madani and religious scholars and health experts participated in the seminar.

Chief Minister Durrani assured the seminar participants that the government would implement their recommendations within its meagre resources.

The health minister said that the health cooperative system would be chalked out according to the interpretations of prominent religious scholars.

Senator Prof Khurshid Ahmad gave an overview of the sanctity and importance of human life and healthcare from an Islamic perspective.

Mufti Ghulam Rehman said that protection of health was a religious obligation and negligence in this regard was deemed to be a crime.
