KARACHI, Sept 8: Medical treatment of nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan began at the Aga Khan University Hospital amid tight security on Friday. Sources said that Dr Khan had earlier desired that senior urologist Dr Adeebul Hassan Rizvi be included in the medical panel.

However, Dr Rizvi is reported to be in South Africa for a fund-raising campaign for the Sindh Institute of Urology Transplant.

The sources said Dr Khan was on the second floor of the private wing of the Aga Khan Hospital. They added that the general public, as well as unauthorised staff, was not allowed to go there.

Rangers and police personnel have been deployed in and around the hospital.

The sources said that the government had strictly directed the doctors and Dr Khan’s family members not to share details about his surgery with newsmen. They said Dr Khan would be shifted to his sister’s residence after the surgery, where he would rest for the next two weeks.

Dr Khan was accompanied by his wife and a daughter, they said.

The sources said the doctors had already started conducting prostate specific anti-gene test. “All the tests are being re-conducted, though the reports of previous tests were negative. However, this is being done as a precautionary measure,” they said.—Online
