Chenab to rise at Trimmu

Published September 7, 2006

LAHORE, Sept 6: Against the expectations of over 320,000 cusecs, a peak of only 224,000 cusecs (medium flood) reached river Chenab at Trimmu on Wednesday evening and the Flood Forecasting Division said the level would gradually rise during the night.

A maximum of 300,000 cusecs was now expected to pass from the headworks by early Thursday morning which was the beginning of the high flood level in the river at this point, it said.

The situation would not be alarming. But, it said, DCOs of Khanewal and Jhang had been forewarned to adopt precautionary and rescue measures in view of the expected flooding of the localities and fields in the low-lying villages along the embankments of the river. Similarly, the same warning had also been issued to the DCOs of Multan and Muzaffargarh from where the peak would pass on Friday.

The FFD said this was the last flood peak in the river and there were no more chances of its flooding at present.
