ISLAMABAD, Sept 6: The Foreign Office on Wednesday termed as ‘gross misreporting’ a statement attributed to the President’s spokesperson by ABC News that Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden would not face capture in Pakistan if he agreed to lead a peaceful life.

President’s spokesperson Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan was speaking of the peace agreement signed on Sept 5 with tribal leaders in North Waziristan, said a clarification issued by Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam on Wednesday.

“In response to a question, Maj-Gen Sultan stated that foreigners settled in the area would be allowed to stay there on the condition that they lived peacefully and abided by law. At no stage during the conversation he said that this was applicable to Osama bin Laden,” she said.

She said the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden were unknown.

The spokesperson declared: “We remain committed to fighting terrorism, including through the full implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions.”—QA
