ISLAMABAD, Sept 6: Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday sought judicial inquiry into Waziristan operation. Commenting on the withdrawal of army troops from Waziristan, he said had an inquiry been conducted in to the Kargil issue, the army operation in Waziristan would have been avoided, which had badly damaged the integrity of the country.

“Our poor country lost billions of rupees in the military misadventure, now is the time to hold an inquiry into Waziristan crisis to ascertain the responsibility for this misadventure that PTI had already demanded in Feb 2004,” said Mr Khan. He said he had warned right at the beginning that a military operation in this area was ill-advised as it was historically proven that this area had never been captured or defeated. If the British Empire, the superpower of its time, had failed then how could the Pakistan army be successful as the geography and the people of the area were the same.

Mr Khan said that PTI demanded time and again for the peaceful and political settlement of Waziristan conflict by not using brutal military force. Now that the military has started withdrawing troops from the trouble land proves that the operation was a failure and speaks volumes for the inability of the government to handle the situation.—Our Reporter
