KARACHI, Sept 3: The total number of primary, lower secondary and secondary schools in the town is 173 and at least one third of them are located in the rented building.

Only a very few buildings are properly maintained. Watchmen, peons, sweepers are integral parts of the educational institutions, but majority of the schools are deprived of their services.

During visit to different schools, it was observed that students in almost every school were sweeping the buildings. Owing to non-availability of watchmen, drug addicts and thieves have taken away the fans, grills, doors and windows. The boundary wall of Govt Girls’ Primary School, Sector-11/E, Jinnah Colony, has collapsed and the thieves have taken away the fans, iron grills, electric cable, door and windows.

The thieves have also taken away the school record, fans and other things from Govt Girls’ Primary School in Frontier Colony No.1, and same is the position with J/M Madina Primary School Raja Tanveer Colony, from where about 30 fans have been stolen. Thieves have also taken away record and fans of the Mustafa School Sector-7/A.

During the visit to 24 schools, it was observed that water was not available at 14 schools.

Toilets are also not available even in many girls’ schools.
