ISLAMABAD, Sept 1: Chairman of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy Makhdoom Amin Fahim has termed the ‘official’ burial of Jamhoori Watan Party president Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti an un-Islamic, barbaric and inhuman act of the government.
Talking to Dawn at the Parliament House on Friday, Mr Fahim said he had resigned as chairman of the ARD and the People’s Party Parliamentarians as moral obligation following failure of the no-confidence motion against the prime minister but his colleagues in the alliance forced him to withdraw his resignation. He said although the result of the motion was a forgone conclusion he felt it fit on technical grounds that he should take the responsibility and resign.
He said the situation in Balochistan following the gruesome assassination of Nawab Bugti was reminiscent of the circumstances before the fall of East Pakistan.
He said frequently changing statements of the government about the identification of Nawab Bugti’s body and his death under debris of a cave and now an official burial without allowing his relatives to see their elder was callous.
The said the act had further eroded the government’s credibility.
Responding to a question, he said Thursday’s All Parties’ Conference had announced launching of joint struggle against the government to take the country to true democracy from the military-controlled one.
