TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 31: The Government Municipal Degree College needs a hostel and more rooms to conveniently run the postgraduate classes.
On the directions of the Punjab chief minister, DPI (colleges) Dr Shaukat Ali had paid a visit to the college recently during which the staff and the students apprised him of the requirements.
The official directed the principal to send proposals along with cost estimates.
The proposals sent to the provincial buildings department for the preparation of estimate include construction of a botany laboratory for BSc students with office and store, postgraduate hostel for 100 students, 800 metres boundary wall, multipurpose hall with dressing rooms and toilets.
Infrastructure for canteen, underground water reservoir and overhead tank, provision of water supply, replacement of sewerage, walkway from main gate to postgraduate block and 10 toilets for students were also demanded.
CITRUS EXPORT: Citrus fruit would be exported from here soon, according to district nazim Chaudhry Abdul Sattar in Chak 349 GB where he was speaking to growers on the occasion of farmers’ day.
He claimed that there were orchards spreading over 415,870 acres in the Toba Tek Singh district
Recently, the provincial agriculture department had started a fruit and vegetable development project in the district.
Under the programme, the spoiled and destroyed orchards would be restored under the supervision of experts.
The nazim further said after the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreement, the farmers should focus on the production of quality fruit and vegetable as they would earn more by exporting their produce.
He said field schools were being set up in seven villages of the district to train farmers on how to apply modern techniques.
