ABBOTTABAD, Aug 30: Four people were killed and nine others injured when two cars fell into deep ravines at different places in Galyat here on Tuesday night. A car skidded off the road and plunged into a ravine near Bara Gali, killing Kosar Riaz and Zeeshan on the spot. Iqra, Nida, Fahad, Riaz, Asad Riaz, Arshad Riaz and Fayaz were injured. They were admitted to the Ayub Medical Complex.
In the second accident, a car of picnickers from Gujranwala fell into a deep ditch near Changla Gali, killing Shaikh Mohammad Saeed and Rizwan Ahmad. Ejaz Bhatti and Ajmal were injured. They were admitted to a hospital.
Sources said the accidents occurred due to thick fog, which had reduced visibility.
RELIEF GOODS: Mansehra police on Tuesday night seized four trucks carrying relief goods for earthquake victims which were donated by Qatar and to be distributed through an NGO in Mansehra and Balakot.
Pakistan army and police have established check posts at all outlets of Mansehra after reports that some NGOs and other are selling relief goods to people who onward sold it in other parts of the country.
Mansehra police on late Tuesday night seized trucks near at Mansehra check post when goods were being shifted to Mardan.
DCO Mansehra has constituted a three-member inquiry committee headed by EDO finance who will conduct the inquiry while police have asked officials of NGO concerned to clarify the shifting of relief goods.
District Nazim and DCO Mansehra have issued strict instructions to all NGOs that no one can shift any relief to any other part of the country without prior approval of the District Nazim.
CONTEST: The Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul, won the 10th All Pakistan Bilingual Declamation Contest organised by the Army Burn Hall College here on Wednesday.
About 60 students from 29 educational institutions from all over the country participated in the two-day contest.
In Urdu Naushab Ahmed of the Military College, Jehlum, and Mian Faraz of the Government College, Lahore, were declared joint winners, while Obaid Ahmed of the Sakardu Cadet College secured the second position and Miss Zarah Asif of the Army Public School, Rawalpindi, got third position.
In the English contest, Sara Masood of the Army Public School, Rawalpindi, was declared first, Hassan Afzal of the Military College, Jehlum, got the second prize and Ehtisham-ul-Haq of the Scout Cadet College, Battarasi, got the third potion.
Wife of Lt-Gen Sallah Ud din was the chief guest at the occasion.
