KARACHI, Aug 30: Speakers at a function on Wednesday urged philanthropists to come forward and joins hands with the government so that more facilities could be provided to special people.

The function was organised by the Organization for Welfare of the Special Persons (OWSP) where ration and white canes were distributed among handicapped people.

Sindh Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Sohrab Sarki, Shahadat Ali, Maheen Khan and Ahmad A. Sattar, besides OWSP chief M. Jamaluddin, were among those who spoke on the occasion.

They observed that providing facilities to special citizens was a gigantic task and government alone could not do much for the purpose. Therefore, they added, NGOs and philanthropists would have to come forward and play their due role in improving the quality of their life.

Mr Sarki said the government had fixed a quota in jobs for handicapped people, who could approach the relevant organisations to avail an opportunity.

M. Jamaluddin urged people to donate in cash and kind, in any amount they could afford, to the organisations working for the welfare of handicapped people.

At the end of the function, ration and white canes were distributed among special citizens and it was announced that more such assistance would be extended to deserving people at the OWSP’s Sindhi Muslim Housing Society office on Sept 20.
