KARACHI: City Council moot put off

Published August 31, 2006

KARACHI, Aug 30: The City District Council meeting scheduled for Thursday has been put off amid reports that the opposition benches planned to move a resolution in the house to condemn the killing of Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and to pay tributes to his leadership.

The meeting had been convened by Naib City Nazim Nasreen Jalil to deliberate upon a number of issues relating to the city.

Opposition leader Saeed Ghani has condemned the postponement, saying that a press conference would be held on Thursday where opposition councilors would express their resentment over the gruesome killing of the seasoned politicians in a military operation.
