Wapda lift women soccer trophy

ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: Striker Misbah Siddiqui smashed the decisive last-gasp goal for Wapda to beat Islamabad 1-0 to win the final of the second National Women soccer championship at Jinnah Stadium on Monday.

Wapda missed sure chances of scoring in the 7th, 15th and 24th minute of the match.

Earlier, Balochistan Red defeated Sindh Greens 2-0 to claim the third position. The goals were scored by Rifat Mehdi in the 18th and 54th minute.

Pakistan Football Federation president Faisal Saleh Hayat announced Rs1 million for women soccer players on behalf of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

Champions Wapda received Rs50,000, runners-up Islamabad received Rs30,000 and Balochistan Red pocketed Rs20,000.

Islamabad’s Mejzgaan Orakzai earned the most valuable player prize while Rifat Mehdi was declared leading scorer of the match.—PPI
