ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: A consignment of 5,000 pre-fabricated housing units would be delivered to the poor people in Muzaffarabad within the next fortnight. Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Sardar Atiq Ahmad on Tuesday told PTV that the houses had been prepared with the help of the Saudi Arabia.

Some more consignments are also expected to be delivered among the needy soon. The concerned authorities were working round the clock for ensuring provision of shelters to all beforeonset of winter, he said.

The entire reconstruction plan has been devised jointly. Material hubs have already been established across the valley which will facilitate people and make the reconstruction process smooth.

People of high risk areas would be provided safer alternative place for living. A big chunk of land has been earmarked for the people of vulnerable areas.

A plan of over Rs4 billion has been finalised to rebuild maximum official buildings on modern lines at the rates ranging form Rs5,200 per sq-ft to Rs5,500 per sq-ft. Most units would be completed and delivered before November 2006.

A new master plan for reconstruction of Muzaffarabad and Bagh has also been finalised and would be opened for deliberations from September 2 to 15, he said.

Stressing on continuation of ongoing peace process with India he said withdrawal from the process would invite widespread destruction in South Asian region.

Sardar Atiq urged India to shun its craze for hegemony as it was not possible in the present scenario.

He said a monument would be built to recognise the donor countries’ services.—APP
