KARACHI, Aug 27: Residents of Orangi town complained that the supply of drinking water, which was affected during the monsoon rains, had not been restored so far.

Anwarul Haq said that Sector 11/E was facing acute shortage of drinking water, as the line that supplies water to many areas was not functioning properly.

The people have time and again complained to the authorities concerned, but to no avail, he said and added that monthly water bills were being charged regularly. It was informed that the problem had further aggravated with the recent rains and floods.Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Raja Tanveer Colony expressed concern over the exorbitant rates of water tankers and demanded of the Orangi town officials to negotiate the issue with the tanker operators in order to fix a reasonable rate for the supply of water.

An area resident, Mohammad Ali Khan, said that the same prices were charged now which had been fixed for summer. He said there was no check on the tankers fleecing the consumers.
