GUJRANWALA, Aug 23: Two people were killed and seven others injured as a bus fell into Upper-Chenab canal at Fareed Town here on Wednesday. Near Chacharwali bridge, a speeding Sialkot-bound bus fell into the canal as a result of which conductor Muhammad Umar of Daska and an unidentified person drowned while Kala Khan, Hasnain, Aashiq Husain, Sughran Bibi, Faraz Ahmad and Nawaz sustained injuries.

Divers recovered the bodies while the injured people were rushed to DHQ hospital.

ACQUITTED: As many as 57 accused booked for damaging property during protests against publication of blasphemous sketches by Denmark and other European countries’ newspapers in Kamoki were acquitted by anti-terrorism court No 2 here on Wednesday.

According to prosecution, they took out procession, blocked GT Road and damaged buses and other property on February 14.

However, prosecution failed to prove the case.

Kamoki city police had registered the case against 150 people while 57 of them were nominated in FIR.

JAILED: A court announced the decision of a criminal case after 11 years and sentenced the convict to one-year imprisonment with Rs10,000 fine on Wednesday.

According to the prosecution, convict Akhtar Husain was booked by Civil Lines police which recovered one kilogram of hashish from his possession on January 5, 1996. But he managed to escape. He was arrested a few months ago.
