KARACHI, Aug 21: The government is considering linking promotions of teachers with their performances so as to improve the deteriorating standard of education in the public sector.

According to reliable sources, the policymakers had taken notice of the poor performance of the government-run institutions despite spending huge amount on improving salary structure and providing incentives to the students.

They said that all efforts in the past to improve standard of education in the public educational institutions had so far failed to bear fruit. Poor results in the examinations, not only discourages wards but also their parents compelling them either to make their children discontinue their education or admit their children to some private institutions.

This situation has caused a mushroom growth of tuition centers, where students were prepared only to get through the examination without any emphasis on acquiring knowledge of the subject .

It would be pertinent to mention here that recently Director-General Federal Education Board Brig (retd) Maqsoodul Hasan had demoted three school principals due to poor performance in the SSC exams.

Under the new plans, teachers would be asked to fill a Performa annually to mention the books they had read besides syllabus to keep themselves abreast of new methods and research in their respective subjects.
