GUJRANWALA, Aug 18: Four women were stabbed and injured allegedly by some 10 dacoits in Maan Ladheywala Warraich village on Friday.
According to a report reaching here, some 10 armed men entered the house of Abdul Ghafoor by scaling the boundary wall and held hostage the inmates at gunpoint. When they started collecting jewellery from women, they put up resistance.
The intruders attacked them with knives and injured four of them — Rehana, Khadija, Madeeha and Parveen. When Aslam came to their rescue, the bandits tried to strangle him.
The dacoits made off with 18-tola gold, Rs223,000 in cash, two mobile phones and three motorcycles.
On information, the police reached the spot and arrested five of the dacoits after an encounter with the help of villagers.
Those arrested are Kashif Gujjar, Afzal Warraich, Jamshed Gujjar, Mushtaq and Suleman Warraich.
GANGS BUSTED: Police claim to have busted 41 gangs of dacoits and robbers and arrested 1,277 proclaimed offenders and 1,244 court fugitives besides recovering a huge quantity of illegal arms and looted goods from them during the last fortnight.
This was stated by additional IG Malik Mohammad Iqbal while speaking at a briefing here on Friday.
He said 14 Kalashnikovs, five hand-grenades, 167 rifles, 170 guns, 144 revolvers, 718 pistols, 40 carbines and 7,324 rounds besides looted goods worth Rs9.1 million were recovered from them.
ARRESTED: Over 165 people who were deported from Greece were arrested by an FIA raiding team at the railway station here on Friday while six others managed to escape.
Reports said some human smugglers had sent these youth to Greece after extorting hundreds of thousands of rupees from them, but the Greek government deported them.
FOUND ABSENT: Over 89 employees of the Wazirabad tehsil municipal administration were found absent during a surprise visit by the tehsil nazim here on Friday.
The nazim issued them show-cause notices and suspended a sub-engineer, Iftikhar, from service for marking his attendance in advance in the office register.
Tehsil nazim Nawazish Ali Cheema raided the TMA offices at 8:27am where only 11 low-paid employees were present while almost all officials, including the tehsil municipal officer, were absent. The nazim got locked the main gate of the office and stayed there for some time. The absent officials came to the office from 9am to 10am.
