Lara doubtful for Lanka tour

KINGSTON (Jamaica), Oct 17: Record-breaking batsman Brian Lara is uncertain for the West Indies tour of Sri Lanka and Wavell Hinds has been included in the pre-tour camp as cover.

Lara is still being bothered by a hamstring injury that forced him to pull out of this year’s tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya.

The West Indies team management is expected to confirm later this week whether Lara, who holds the individual world Test (375) and first-class (501) batting records, will make the trip at the end of the month.

He was expected to undergo further tests on the injury Wednesday.

The West Indian team is due to play three Tests and take part in a triangular series of One-day Internationals that also involve Zimbabwe.

But in the current security climate there are doubts about the tour. A final decision is expected after this week’s International Cricket Council meeting in Kuala Lumpur.—Reuters
