PESHAWAR, Aug 17: Two tribesmen have kidnapped a man from Iqbalabad locality of Gulberg area and are demanding Rs1 million as ransom for his release, official sources told Dawn on Thursday.

Registering a case with the West-Cantt police station, one Amjad Hussain stated that Amjad and Shahid came to the house of his brother Ali Asad Hussain on Tuesday morning and pretended themselves to be the officials of Peshawar High Court.

Amjad Hussain said the two asked his brother to come with them in a car bearing (fake) official registration number to the court as a senior judge had asked him to appear before him in person in a case of the kidnapping of his another brother, Dilawar Hussain.

Late in the night, Amjad Hussain said, he received a telephone call from Nadeem Shah, a resident of Landi Kotal tehsil of Khyber Agency, who had kidnapped Dilawar Hussain on March 5 this year. The caller demanded Rs1 million for the release of Ali Asad, he added.

Amjad Hussain explained that his brother Dilawar Hussain was kidnapped by Nadeem Shah, Banaras and Hayatur Rehman, and kept in Landi Kotal.

The three had a ‘false’ debt claim of Rs1 million against his brother and they were demanding the same amount from him as ransom, Amjad Hussain said.

He instead registered a case of kidnapping with the West-Cantt police station.

He said he had also lodged a complaint with the Khyber Agency political administration and sought their help for the safe recovery of Dilawar Hussain. But the political authorities insisted him to arrange the ransom money and withdraw the case against the accused, he added.

The ‘disappointing’ response of the Khyber Agency political administration forced his brother Ali Asad to approach the Peshawar High Court, he said, adding that Dilawar Hussain was then recovered without paying any ransom on the instruction of the court to the political administration.

But on Tuesday, the same persons again picked up Ali Asad for ransom and demanded the same amount for his release.

Baber, Amjad, Shahid, Nadeem Shah and Banaras have been nominated in the case.
