Defence accords signed with Beijing

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16: Pakistan and China on Wednesday signed two agreements on defence cooperation and military assistance at the conclusion of the fourth round of defence and security talks held here.

General Ehsanul Haq, chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, led the Pakistani side while Lieut-Gen Zhang Qin Sheng, assistant to the Chief of General Staff of the People’s Liberation Army, led the Chinese side.

The two sides shared common perception on important regional and international issues, a press release issued by the ISPR said.

Following the talks, Maj-Gen Tariq Salim Malik, additional secretary of the ministry of defence production and Maj-Gen Jia Xiaoning, deputy director-general of the foreign affairs office of the Chinese Ministry of National Defence signed the agreements on behalf of their respective governments.
