KARACHI, Aug 16: As many as 171 more employees of the city government will be dismissed from their service after completing required procedure, as they failed to attend a ceremony held for their physical verification at the premises of the city government’s secretariat on Wednesday.

The drive against ghost employees of the city government, which was launched by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday, continued for the second consecutive day on Wednesday raising the number of employees who will be dismissed from their service to 358 in the last two days.

Termination orders of 187 coolies and supervisors of the city government’s health department were issued by the nazim himself on Tuesday while a decision to dismiss 171 coolies, beldar and peons of city government’s works and services department was taken by EDO (Works and Services) and District Officer (Human Resources Management) at a ceremony held for their physical verification on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the city government said that although

567 employees got their salary for the month of July, 171 remained absent from the ceremony organised for their physical verification.

KWSB: KWSB Managing Director Brig Iftikhar Haider has warned the valve-men and kundi-men that whosoever would be found absent from duty would be dismissed from service.

Speaking at a ceremony organised by the KWSB for the physical verification of kundi-men and valve-men of all the towns on the directives of the nazim, Brig Iftikhar Haider said that it had been decided in principle that only those who performed duties would get their salary while those who remained absent would be dismissed from their service.
