ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: Customs personnel seized 19.5kg heroin from different parcels booked for United Kingdom, a spokesman for the Customs said here on Tuesday. The Customs staff, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Customs Lal Khan, seized heroin from different parcels booked for UK while inspecting them.

A case has been lodged with the Airport police station and investigation is in progress.

Our Staff Reporter from Pindi Adds: The anti-narcotics force seized 7kg of heroin which was to be smuggled abroad and arrested three persons, including a woman, from Islamabad International Airport on Monday, the authorities said.

They said the check-in for Dubai-bound flight EK-615 was underway when the ANF staff spotted a passenger Tariq Mehmood acting suspiciously. During the baggage search, 2kg heroin was seized from his suitcase.

In another crackdown, two persons were arrested for possessing drugs.

A man and a woman identified as Zulfiqar Hassan from Tanzania and his wife Zahra Babib holding passport no AB-162989 were checking in for a Dubai flight No EK-613 on Monday when the ANF staff intercepted them and seized 5kg heroin concealed in the cavities of their suitcase.

The ANF said the couple had offered them $8,000 for the safe release of drug, but they turned down the offer.

The bribe money has also been seized.
