PESHAWAR, Aug 13: President Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that the alliance will observe the independence day as ‘salvation day’ by holding rallies at districts-level and organising a grand rally at Minar-i-Pakistan.

While addressing as the chief guest at the concluding session of a three-day consultation on draft national curriculum here, Mr Hussain said that the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) would also support the protest movement of the MMA.

Qazi Hussain, who is also the Ameer of Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan, said the MMA supported the recommendations of the provincial education commission and wanted the government to enforce them.

The draft national curriculum prepared by the federal government, Mr Hussain said, lacked national objectives and Ideology of Pakistan and was not in accordance with the recommendations of the provincial education commission because it did not fulfil national and religious needs of Pakistanis.

“President Musharraf and his team have formulated this draft curriculum under the dictates of the US which want to destroy our nation,” Qazi added.

He criticised the federal education minister for not consulting provinces on the national curriculum and not caring for the recommendation of the NWFP education commission.

Senior Minister NWFP Sirajul Haq said that if the recommendations of the NWFP education commission were not incorporated in the new national curriculum, the provincial government would challenge it in high court. He said that the centre could not superimpose its decisions on provinces.

“We do not want a curriculum which is not in accordance with our believes, culture and traditions,” Mr Haq added.

The NWFP education minister Maulana Fazl-i-Ali said that NWFP government had serious reservations over the draft of national curriculum.

Our Charsadda correspondent adds: MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that recent arrests of alleged terrorists in UK is a drama which has been staged to earn bad name for Muslim countries.

While talking to newsmen after visiting flood-affected areas, Qazi Hussain urged Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to resign because he was still an employee of the City Bank and had lost his credibility after the shady privatisation of the Pakistan Steel Mill.

He said the Jamaat i Islami would soon give the rulers a surprise by coming out of the parliament to mark struggle to oust the Musharraf government.
