KARACHI, Aug 12: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has called a meeting to review Rs800 million development package for Lyari Town and speedy removal of problems of the long-neglected area.
The meeting to be held at nazim’s office within 10 to 15 days will be attended by Lyari Town Nazim, TMA officials, DCO, concerned EDOs and Karachi Water and Sewerage Board officials.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the city nazim with Lyari Town Nazim Malik Fayyaz, who called on him at his office here on Saturday and apprised him about the problems being faced by the town.
Mr Malik told the nazim that two-kilometre-long Chakiwara Road was in dilapidated condition due to the recent monsoon downpour.
The nazim directed EDO (Works & Services) to immediately start work on filling of potholes on the road.
Mustafa Kamal also phoned Sindh Finance Advisor M.A. Jalil to seek his department’s help in curtailing Rs4 million telephone bill of the Lyari town office and requested him to provide all possible help to the town as it had limited resources.
Later, he contacted Federal Communications Minister Shamim Siddiqui on telephone and talked about Mirza Adam Khan Road being constructed by the National Highway Authority.
The nazim also issued instructions to the officials for renovation and repair of Lyari Maternity Home and Bakhtawar Park.
He said that inter-city buses would be shifted to Yousuf Goth terminal within a month and the town nazim would be consulted and provided with all possible cooperation by the city government in this regard.
Mr Kamal said that development of Lyari, the oldest settlement of Karachi, was among top priorities of the city government and more uplift projects would be launched there. He told the town nazim that the development funds for MNAs and MPAs elected from Lyari amounted to over Rs25 million, which should be spent on projects in the area that were the instant need of Lyariites.
He assured that the city government would initiate uplift projects in Lyari with consultation and co-operation of the town administration.
He asked the town nazim to submit him a report in written about problems of the area especially complicated ones within 10 days so that it could be presented as agenda of meeting planned to solve Lyari long-standing problems.—PPI
