HYDERABAD, Aug 12: Officials of the Jamshoro district administration on Saturday called upon residents of about 15 to 20 villages of the kutcha area to shift to safe places because water level in the Indus River is continuously rising.

Officials led by DCO Dr Khawar Jamil visited the Larkana-Sehwan flood protective bund and people in 15-20 villages in UC Talti were shifted to safe places.

Some irrigation buildings have been declared relief camps while tents were being pitched as well.

“We found that people were still living in the kutcha area and they were not willing to leave their houses due to their livestock and land”, an official said.

The DCO asked revenue officials to set up at least three relief camps in areas of Peer Shakh, 91-Mile and near Karampur village.

The officials tried to persuade residents of Shalmani and Bhambhro villages to shift to safer places because the flow of river water could damage lands and property.

They said that it could also be risky for their lives.

An official claimed that the river water was almost hitting Haji Hashim Bughio, Kheru Dero, Jhandiyani, Babriyon villages.

The team again visited the Makhdoom Sahar embankment in Manjhand taluka where irrigation officials briefed them that there was no threat to embankment as necessary work had been done to protect the bund.

They said that stone pitching had already been done.

Personnel of the Pakistan Army also visited the Makhdoom Sahar embankment where there was a threat of erosion to the bund.

CLASSES: The University of Sindh announced on Saturday that regular classes of second semester MA (Previous) English under evening programme would commence from August 15 at the Model School, Hyderabad, from 3pm to 8pm.
