LAHORE, Aug 11: Lahore police have made foolproof security arrangements for Independence Day celebrations.
Talking to APP here on Friday, DIG (Operations) Amir Zulfiqar Khan said that as many as 9,000 policemen would be on duty to ensure law and order on Aug 14.
He said that 2,000 traffic police officials would also be put on duty to streamline the traffic so that no traffic jams could take place at any point in the city on this occasion.
As many as 120 vehicles of mobile squad, 40 of elite force and 100 of tiger squad would patrol in the metropolis, he added.
He directed all the city SHOs to patrol in their respective areas to keep a vigil on suspects.
The DIG said that the policemen equipped with telescope and sophisticated weapons would be deputed at 36 points in and around Minar-i-Pakistan to ensure that no untoward incident took place on the Independence Day.
He said that elite force along with other policemen in plain clothes would be deployed at important public places, including bus stands, railway station and recreational parks, to avert any incident.
The DIG said that he himself would visit all the important points of the city to monitor the performance of the police deputed on duty.
He said that police would provide full security to the political party which had been allowed by the government to hold meeting at Minar-i-Pakistan on Aug 14. He warned that nobody would be allowed to take law into his own hand.—APP
