PESHAWAR, Aug 11: An anti-terrorism court here on Friday acquitted a man charged with kidnapping a person for ransom.
The court presided over by Shahjee Rehman Khan accepted an application filed by the accused, Abdul Ghafoor, under Section 265-k of the Criminal Procedure Code, which empowers the court to acquit a person before conclusion of the trial if the evidence on record is not enough for his conviction.
An FIR was registered at Faqirabad police on Jan 6 under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act by one Jibran Khan of disappearance of his brother Haji Afzal.
p He claimed that it appeared that his brother had been kidnapped.
The kidnapped man surfaced on March 13 and alleged that he had been abducted by Abdul Ghafoor and some other people. He alleged that the kidnappers were demanding Rs15 million as ransom but he managed to escape.
