PESHAWAR, Aug 10: NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah Khan has said that deficiency of managerial skills and not lack of resources is the basic problem in the health sector.

Speaking at certificates distribution ceremony at the completion of the third MPH course at the Provincial Health Services Academy on Thursday, he stressed the need of improving managerial skills of healthcare personnel. The minister ordered expansion of the academy and asked the authorities to improve the courses to attract maximum candidates.

He said admissions should be offered on merit in the MPH course to all candidates having degrees in social sciences.

He ordered the academy to arrange short courses in management and provide opportunities of skill enhancement to paramedics. He underlined the need of arranging BSc, MSc and research courses for paramedics.

He directed the authorities concerned to affiliate the diploma courses with the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

The minister assured the academy of his assistance in implementation of its rules and approval of teaching staff for it.

PHSA Rector Dr Mehmood Alam demanded allocation of funds for strengthening the training programmes.
