KARACHI, Aug 8: An FIR against the management of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation was lodged under the Qisas and Diyat Ordinance at the Clifton police station early Tuesday morning.

Riasat Ali, 30, was passing through a street clogged with rainwater in Tauheed Commercial area Defence Phase-V when he was electrocuted, police said quoting the family members.

According to the family, a snapped electric wire was lying in the rainwater, duty officer of the Clifton police station said.

However, according to Clifton TPO Imran Minhas, the young man got electrocuted when he touched an electric pole while passing through Tauheed Commercial.TPO Clifton confirmed the registration of the FIR pointing out that MPA Akhtar Bilgirami was instrumental in lodging the FIR.

The station investigation officer of Cilfton police Afzal Baig told Dawn that an electric wire was hanging from the electric pole at Street-25 Tauheed Commercial. However, he said, it was not clear if the deceased had touched the pole or current was passing through the rainwater, the officer added.

“We are making queries from the area people if anyone had earlier made complaint to the KESC about the snapped wire hanging from the pole,” the SIO said. The FIR (188/2006) was lodged by the victim’s brother Yasir Sajjad under Qisas and Diyat Ordinance.

According to the police, Riasat Ali met the accident while returning home in Gizri from the furniture shop where he used to work.

Following the incident, the victim’s body was taken to the Jinnah hospital for legal formalities.
