LEEDS, Aug 7: Inzamam-ul-Haq was still suffering chest pain after an X-ray on Monday cleared the Pakistan captain of a major injury. Inzamam, accompanied by Pakistan trainer Murray Stevenson, went to hospital on the fourth day of the ongoing third Test against England at Headingley.

Afterwards, Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer said: “The X-ray is clear but he (Inzamam) has some internal problems and complained of pain in the right side of his chest.”

Inzamam fell for 26 in Pakistan's first innings on Sunday when he was out hit wicket in extraordinary fashion.

Trying to sweep left-arm spinner Monty Panesar he over-balanced and flicked off the bails as he ungainly tried to avoid knocking over his stumps.

But Woolmer insisted the star batsman's injury was not related to his freak exit.

“He was not hit by a ball or hurt during his dismissal,” the former England all-rounder said.

Inzamam was off the field for the first hour of Monday's fourth day but did come on after the drinks break.

However, Inzamam didn't lead his side out after lunch.—AFP
