SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 7: The Khanqah Dogran police claimed on Monday to have killed a dacoit and arrested one of his accomplices in an encounter at Salar Bhattian, Nankana Sahib, while two others managed to escape.

Reports said a party, led by SHO Imdad Husain, was on petrol duty when a car overtook the police vehicle. On chasing, the motorists opened fire. During a shootout, one of the dacoits — Luqman alias Manu — was killed and his accomplice Anjum Sohail sustained injuries who was arrested. Abdul Rehman and an unidentified accused managed to escape.

The police recovered a car, kalashnikov, rifle and scores of cartridges from their possession.

Meanwhile, Nankana DPO Umer Farooq Bhatti told the press that the accused were wanted in murder, attempted murder and dacoity cases.

He said teams had been constituted for early arrest of the fleeing dacoits.
