Clement, Murray power into final

WASHINGTON, Aug 6: Experienced Frenchman Arnaud Clement and British teenager Andy Murray roared into the Legg Mason Classic final with straight-sets victories on Saturday.

Clement needed two hours to outduel former world number one Marat Safin 7-6, 7-6, while Murray eased past Russian Dmitry Tursunov 6-2, 7-5 to reach his second final of the year.

Saturday’s results:

Semi-finals: 8-Andy Murray (Britain) beat 7-Dmitry Tursunov (Russia) 6-2, 7-5; 11-Arnaud Clement (France) beat Marat Safin (Russia) 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4).

CLIJSTERS STRUGGLES

SAN DIEGO: Top seed Kim Clijsters held off a late fightback to beat Czech teen Nicole Vaidisova 6-2, 7-6 in the semi-finals of the Acura Classic on Saturday, setting up a final clash with Maria Sharapova.

Number two Sharapova was pushed hard by Patty Schnyder before winning 7-5, 6-4 to reach her first Acura final.Results:
