Imran Khan unhappy with openers

HYDERABAD, Aug 4: Former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan on Friday described Pakistan’s performance in the ongoing Test series against England as disappointing and regretted that the team was still without a reliable opening pair.

“All we have is makeshift openers and the result is for everyone to see,” he told Dawn during his visit to the city.

“When the opening pair fails, the middle-order comes under lot of pressure which eventually leads to a collapse as was witnessed at Old Trafford,” he remarked.

“It’s a strategic failure that we keep changing the opening pair every now and then and it affects the overall stability of the side,” he added.

Commenting on Pakistan’s under-strength pace bowling attack in the series, Imran said it was crucial for the visitors that Mohammad Asif returned to the ranks as soon as possible since Shoaib Akhtar is not completely fit yet.
