GUJRANWALA, Aug 2: The cleanliness system has been handed over to tehsil municipal administrations of four towns — Khiali Shahpur, Nandipur, Aroop and Qila Dedar Singh.

While the district nazim sought recommendations for the recruitment of some 100 more sanitary workers at a high-level meeting held here on Wednesday.

Reports said that the cleanliness system, earlier looked after by the Wasa, was handed over to the administration of four towns on the demand of its nazims and councillors. But they failed to revamp the cleanliness system on account of shortage of sanitary workers and garbage lifting vehicles.

The CDG has now requested the provincial Minority Minister Ms Joice Rufan Julius to give recommendations for the recruitment of more sanitary workers for improving the cleanliness system in city’s 64 union councils.

Speaking at the meeting, District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha warned that legal notices would be issued to those who were creating hurdles in draining out rainwater from the city.

He directed the sanitation staff to remove garbage and waste from streets and bazaars immediately.

DCO Manzer Hayat, the Wasa managing director, the EDO (municipal services) and other senior officers besides nazims of four towns also attended the meeting.

DEMOTED: An Aimanabad sub-inspector was demoted on the charge of defective investigation while two annual increments of an ASI were stopped by DPO Mian Muhammad Asif here on Wednesday.

Reports said that SI Liaquat Ali Shah made defective investigation in a case while Ladheywala Warraich ASI Shafqat Mehmood failed to complete the investigation within a stipulated period.
