Five police officials suspended

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 1: Bahawalpur Range DIG Ghulam Haider on Tuesday suspended five police officials from service for dereliction of duty.

Kotwali police station SHO (inspector) Hamid Shah and head moharrar Mujahid Abbas were charged with refusing to register a case while three others — Mandi Sadiq Ganj police station SHO (inspector) Muhammad Akbar, sub-inspector Muhammad Yasin and ASI Muhammad Irshad had allegedly accepted illegal gratification.

WATER PROJECT: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has approved a comprehensive water supply project for the old walled city estimated to cost Rs280 million.

According to city tehsil nazim Malik Zahid Channar, the worn-out water pipelines would be replaced and new tubewells sunk.

REFERENCE: Rich tributes were paid to noted literati Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi at a condolence reference organised by the Bahawalpur Arts Council at Rashdia Hall on Tuesday.

RALLY: Members of the Bahawalpur High Court Bar Association on Tuesday organised a rally to condemn Israeli air strikes against the people of Lebanon.

POSTPONED: The execution of a man, his two sons and a brother was postponed for a month for the second time on the orders of the president.
