GUJRANWALA, Aug 1: The district administration has decided to efface two basic health units in Satellite Town and Thanewala Bazaar much to the annoyance of the people.

The land of these centres will be used for commercial purpose after construction of plaza, it is learnt here on Tuesday.

Sources said these two BHUs had failed to provide proper health care to the patients hailing from the respective localities owing to constant shortage of medicines and paramedical staff. Instead of providing these with facilities, the administration decided to wind them up, they added.

EDO (Health) Dr Arshad Iqbal said the file to abolish the Thanewala Bazaar BHU was on the district coordination officer’s table for final order. However, the Satellite Town BHU was running without any doctor and its dispensary which had been shifted to Jandiala Baghwala village in Nandipur Town would be restored in Satellite Town shortly, as the Nandipur town administration had promised to provide four rooms for the purpose.

Nandipur town nazim Rizwan Zafar Cheema dropped a hint that a car-parking plaza was being constructed on the land of the dispensary in Satellite Town.

Meanwhile, people from all walks of life have protested against the decision which would deprive hundreds of residents of the areas of the health facility.

Office-bearers of several trader organisations, the Markazi Anjuman-i-Tajran, Satellite Town union council nazim Haji Maqsood Amjad Rathor, naib nazim Kaleemullah Khan and a delegation of citizen met District Health Officer Dr Riasat Ali and other senior officers of the health department, demanding that the dispensary should not be shifted to Jandiala Bahgwala village. An MMA MNA has requested DCO Manzar Hayat through a memorandum to cancel the order of shifting the dispensary. — Correspondent
