LAHORE, Aug 1: The syndicate and senate bodies of the King Edward Medical University have finally been formed — some seven months after it acquired the university status.

The first meeting of the syndicate is likely to be held in the middle of this month. Meanwhile, KEMU vice-chancellor Prof Mumtaz Hassan, using his emergency powers, has notified the first examination schedule for its students.

“Formation of these bodies means no more dependence on the Punjab University for holding examinations of the KEMU students,” an official said. He said the office of the controller of examination had been set up in this regard, however, its working would be improved with the passage of time.

“Though the syndicate and senate have to approve the examination pattern, this year it will be a special case,” he added.

The official said the governor, who is the chancellor of the provincial universities, had approved the formation and names of the KEMU syndicate and senate.
