ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday asked the state counsel to inquire from the Inter Services Intelligence authorities if Imram, a resident of Islamabad, was in their custody.

The bench comprising Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha was hearing a petition filed by Dr Munir, father of the detainee, who had alleged that his son was picked up and was in the custody of the ISI.

The petitioner pleaded through Advocate Malik Qamar Afzal that he and his son Imran, who had recently returned from Malaysia, were going in the Blue Area about a week ago when ISI Brigadier Mansoor met them and asked Imran to see him in his office. His son, the petitioner said, went to meet the brigadier and never returned.

The ISI, SSP Police Islamabad and SHO PS Secretariat have been made respondents.

After hearing arguments of the counsel for the petitioner, the court directed standing counsel Raja Iftikhar Javed to inquire from the ISI authorities if the Imran was in their custody.

The bench directed Assistant Advocate-General Punjab Mudassar Khalid Abbasi to contact the Islamabad police chief and ascertain if they had any knowledge about the detainee. The state counsel were asked to submit their replies by today (Wednesday).
