KARACHI, Aug 1: Various parts of the city were supplied turbid water on Tuesday. Besides, several localities of the city either received scant supply or went without water for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
Attributing supply of muddy water to rains, sources in the KWSB said normally mud gets into water into the open canals supplying water to the pumping stations during rainy seasons and as such one should not worry about the quality of water as it was being chlorinated properly at its filter plants and thus it was safe for drinking purpose.
They, however, requested the people getting turbid water to properly boil it and put alum before using it for drinking and cooking purposes.
With regard to complaints of short supply of water to certain localities, the sources said in fact the KWSB had to curtail supply hours of some localities to overcome shortfall of 110 mgd which the city had suffered on Monday in the wake of prolonged power breakdowns at its major water pumping stations.“As power supply to major pumping stations has been restored, the overall water supply position will improve considerably by Wednesday,” they added.
Most of the complaints relating to water shortage have been received from Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, parts of North Karachi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Kharadar, Mithadar, Haquani Chowk, Mehmooodabad, Pakistan Chowk.
