LAHORE: Suffering from high blood pressure, PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi was shifted to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology from the Kot Lakhpat Jail on Wednesday evening, where she is serving the second term of 30-day imprisonment under the MPO.
PTI claimed no family member was informed about her deteriorating health.
Noreen Niazi’s counsel Rana Mudassar Umer said Ms Niazi had been shifted to the PIC on the recommendation of jail doctors. She was brought to the hospital at around 7.30pm.
Counsel Rana Umer told Dawn that the jail authorities were continuously denying medicines to the sisters of Imran Khan and added that Uzma Khan was also a heart patient and she was also denied medicines. He said Uzma Khan’s husband had approached the Lahore High Court and eventually medicines were delivered to her on court orders.
Stating that no family member and her counsel had been allowed to meet Imran Khan’s sisters detained under the MPO on the orders of the Lahore DC since Sept 21, Mr Umer said he had filed multiple petitions before the Punjab home secretary as well as the Lahore DC seeking family and lawyer’s meeting with the detained three sisters, but the DC did not respond.
When contacted, a senior jail official said medicines and daily use items were provided to the inmates and the three sisters.
Regarding meeting of family members and lawyers with the three detained sisters, the officer said this was the jurisdiction of the Lahore DC and jail authorities could only allow such meetings by the DC, who had detained them under MPO.
