MANSEHRA: The police have arrested four persons suspected of being involved in the murder of a man for honour last month.

“We have arrested four key suspects during raids in different cities,” district police officer Mohammad Waqas Khan said while addressing a press conference here on Monday.

He said Ayzaz Zaman, who was arrested during a raid in Peshawar, confessed to the police that he had hired the services of professional killers to eliminate a man who had married his sister after she allegedly ran away with him.

The suspects were also presented before the media, along with the weapons seized from them during raids conducted in Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Mansehra.

Mr Khan said the suspects, riding two motorcycles, had shot dead the man, 22.

“This blind murder was a test case for us. A special team launched an investigation after the FIR was registered,” he said.

The DPO said the deceased, a taxi driver, was standing at the Lambi Dehri bus stop when the suspects arrived on the scene on two motorcycles and opened indiscriminate fire on him.

Mr Khan said Zaman told the investigators that the deceased had married his sister eight years ago.

The DPO said the police also arrested Abdul Wahid during a raid in Rawalpindi, Abdul Baseer in Mansehra and Abdul Qadeer in Islamabad.

“Three other suspects, who allegedly masterminded the killing and fled to Afghanistan after the murder, are yet to be arrested,” Mr Khan said.
