PESHAWAR: Adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Communications and Works and Local Government, Asif Rafiq, on Monday called for digitising the provincial road network to improve transparency and accelerate public development projects.

He issued the directives while chairing a meeting of the communications and works department here on Monday.

Secretary communications and works Saqib Raza Aslam, additional secretary Waqas Ahmed, Managing Director Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority Sohail Idrees and other relevant officials attended the meeting.

The secretary communications and works briefed the adviser on the department’s affairs and ongoing development schemes, highlighting the importance of the Sarozai-Hangu, Patrak-Kumrat and Abbottabad-Nathiagali road projects.

He said the department was focusing on these flagship schemes, particularly because Kumrat and Nathiagali attracted large numbers of tourists.

The meeting also reviewed progress on the Road Asset Management System, which will provide information about the condition of roads across the province through a central dashboard.

Asif Rafiq stressed the need to speed up work on public development projects so that people could benefit from improved infrastructure and facilities without delay.
